Commissioning Fund

The Freesound Commissioning Fund is an ongoing mechanism to support the creation of new works by today's most exciting composers, both established and emerging.

The Fund was established in 2020 with lead gifts from a handful of generous donors from across Canada. These donations have allowed us to commission a significant number of composers in the short existence of our ensemble.

Composer we’ve commissioned via the commissioning fund so far include: Christopher Fox (UK), Alex Jang (CA), Georgia Denham (UK), Stephanie Orlando (CA), Lieke van der Voort (CA/NL), Andrew Hulse (US/CA), and more.

Going forward, the Fund will be continually replenished with individual gifts large and small, and grant support as available. This helps us plan future seasons further in advance, giving composers more time to work, and our organization more time to build seasons around major commissions.
